  Modification of Logos  
    As a general rule the University's logos may not be altered. This includes overlaying them with other designs or lettering, displaying only part of a logo, or changing the colors.  

  Colors  
    The University's colors are Carolina Blue and White. While there is a range of opinion as to what exactly is the true shade of Carolina Blue, from a licensing standpoint, it is Pantone 278. Three other Pantone colors are used in the logos as well:
Tar Heels Deep Blue: Pantone 282
Tar Heels Silver: Pantone 877
Tar Heels Metallic Silver: Pantone 429
 

  Use with Other Trademarks (Co-branding)  
    Any use of University marks with other trademarks must be approved by the Director of Trademarks and Licensing, or through a University contract.  

  Appropriateness  
   

No references to alcohol, drugs or tobacco-related products may be used in conjunction with University marks.

Material that may be demeaning to individuals or institutions (including but not limited to racial, ethnic, gender, or disability-related matters) may not be used in conjunction with University marks.

Profanity may not be used in conjunction with University marks.

 

  Commercially-licensed Usage  
  The following policies, in addition to those above, apply to the manufacturing of licensed goods. Please note that each item must be approved in advance and in writing through the University's licensing agent; and that factors in addition to those listed herein may be taken into account when deciding whether to grant approval.
Consumables
  Must have expiration date on packaging
  Current Players
  No use of current players' names, images, or likeness is permitted that would violate NCAA rules and regulations.
Workplace Conditions
  Merchandise, packaging and advertising of University-logoed goods may not include claims regarding workplace conditions. 
  Licensing Proceeds
  In general, packaging or advertising of University-licensed goods may not make any type of reference to the proceeds from the sale of those goods
  Carolina Music and Songs  
   
Any commercial use of UNC music, including but not limited to the following, requires permission through Trademarks and Licensing:
